Top-seeded Djokovic advances in Vienna

VIENNA, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Top-seeded U.S. Open finalist Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat American Robby Ginepri 6-3, 6-4 in Tuesday's opening-round at the BA-CA Tennis Trophy in Vienna.

Former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain rallied to defeat fifth-seeded Argentine Guillermo Canas 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Ferrero reached the Vienna final in 2005, while Canas was the runner-up here in 2001 and 2004.

Seventh-seeded Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela ousted Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-3.

In other matches, former Top 10 star David Nalbandian of Argentina posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Italian Stefano Galvani; American Mardy Fish beat Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-4; and Austrian Jurgen Melzer dispatched countryman Alexander Peya 6-4, 6-3.
