COLORADO SPRINGS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Olympic track and field star Marion Jones disclosed Monday she has given up the five medals she won at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Jones pleaded guilty Friday to lying to federal agents about steroid use. Three days later she accepted a two-year period of ineligibility and gave up her three gold and two bronze medals she won in Sydney, Australia.
Jones admitted to her illegal use of steroids starting in 1999, a claim she previously denied -- even under oath during the BALCO investigations.
It's been reported Jones could spend from three to six months in jail.
Jones, 31, admitted Friday to using a steroid product called "the clear," produced by BALCO, that was given to her by her trainer Trevor Graham. Jones admitted using the substance from September 2000 through July 2001.
Jones was the only female track and field athlete to win five medals at a single Olympics.
