NHL: Minnesota 3, Columbus 2

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Brett Burns scored the game-winning goal at 6:35 of the third period as Minnesota beat Columbus, 3-2.

With the score knotted, 2-2, the defenseman, a first-round pick by the Wild in the 2003 NHL Draft, poked in his first goal of the season as Minnesota won its second straight game to open the new season.

Minnesota's Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Eric Belanger both had a goal and an assist, Bryan Rolston had three assists, and goalie Niklas Backstrom made 19 saves on 21 shots.

Columbus got one goal each from Ron Hainsey and Adam Foote.

Goalie Fredrik Norrena stopped 28 of 31 shots for the Blue Jackets, who shut out defending Stanley Cup Cup champion Anaheim Friday night.

On the power play, Columbus converted its only chance, and Minnesota was 0-for-4.
