DANVILLE, Calif., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- LPGA Tour Commissioner Carolyn Bivens announced Thursday Beth Daniel would serve as captain of the 2009 American Solheim Cup team.
Daniel has played in five Solheim Cup events and was also an assistant captain to Betsy King last month when the United States retained the cup in Sweden. She has a 10-9-7 Solheim Cup record.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Daniel said. "I have either participated in as a player, a spectator, or as an assistant captain in every Solheim Cup, so I've seen every angle of it.
"As a captain or co-captain you can make some brilliant moves and look terrible and make some pretty lousy moves and look pretty good depending on how the players perform. A few weeks ago, they performed brilliantly."
Daniel has won 33 times on the LPGA circuit. The 2009 Solheim Cup matches will be held at Rich Harvest Farms in suburban Chicago.
