NHL: Ottawa 4, Toronto 3 (OT)

TORONTO, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Dany Heatley, having signed a new contract earlier in the day, scored with 2:03 left in overtime Wednesday as Ottawa downed Toronto 4-3.

Heatley will receive a reported $45 million for his long-term deal and he celebrated by first tying the game in the third period and then winning it in the extra session.

After opening their season against each other Wednesday night, the teams will play again Thursday in Ottawa.

Antoine Vermette and Daniel Alfredsson also scored for the Senators, while Martin Gerber stopped 26 shots.

The game marked the head coaching debut of Ottawa's John Paddock, who took over for Bryan Murray.

Murray guided the team to a conference title and a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals last year before becoming the Senators' general manager.
