KANSAS CITY, Kan., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson, who finished 2-3, were unhappy Sunday about Greg Biffle winning the Lifelock 400 at Kansas Speedway.
They contended because they passed Biffle when he slowed down they should have gotten credit for finishing ahead of him.
But NASCAR officials ruled otherwise. NASCAR's Ramsey Poston said since the rain-delayed race was stopped 85 miles early by darkness under the caution flag, the field was frozen and "no passing was allowed."
"Their opinion really doesn't count, as far as I am concerned," Biffle said. "I knew the race was over. When I coasted across the line, everybody went by me. I went into the grass and they pushed me to Victory Lane."
The caution flag came out on Lap 207 after Juan Pablo Montoya brushed the wall and cut a tire. Biffle's Ford, and the cars behind him, circled under yellow for three laps before the checkered flag was displayed after Lap 210.
On that final circuit, Biffle lost touch with the pace car when his car sputtered through Turns 3 and 4, but said he had enough gas to finish.
"I can go start the car up and do some burnouts in the garage and do some donuts if that'll make everybody feel better," he said.
