NFL: Green Bay 23, Minnesota 16

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Brett Favre threw two touchdown passes Sunday, setting an NFL record for career TD tosses and helping the Green Bay Packers top Minnesota 23-16.

Favre hit Greg Jennings down the middle for a 16-yard score in the first quarter that broke the record of 421 TD passes Favre shared with Miami’s Dan Marino. He added No. 423 in the fourth quarter when he connected with James Jones for a 33-yard score.

Favre completed 33 of 45 passes for 344 yards. He was sacked once but threw no interceptions.

Minnesota (1-3) quarterback Kelly Holcomb completed 21 of 39 for 258 yards and one touchdown, a 15-yard throw to Kelly Rice to close out the scoring with 1:55 left to play.

Despite the spotlight on Favre, the game at Minneapolis was a contest dominated by field goals. Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby had three field goals as did his Minnesota counterpart, Ryan Longwell.

After Green Bay (4-0) opened the scoring on Favre’s TD pass to Jennings, Longwell converted on kicks of 44 and 35 yards to cut the Packers lead to 7-6. That was as close as Minnesota would get.
