Hamilton wins the Japanese Grand Prix

OYAMA, Japan, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Rookie Lewis Hamilton overcame rain, fog and the field to win Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix at the Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Japan.

Hamilton's fourth victory of the season put him in great position to win the Formula One drivers championship.

"A very, very eventful race," he said. "There were so many times when we thought they should stop the race (because of the conditions) but towards the end, I just took it easy because it was so wet and my tires were getting old."

His No.2 McLaren crossed the finish line 8.377 seconds ahead of runner-up Heikki Kovalainen, with Kimi Raikkonen third, David Coulthard fourth and Giancarlo Fisichella fifth.
