MLB: Philadelphia 6, Washington 0

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard knocked in two runs each Friday night, as the Philadelphia Phillies beat Washington, 6-0.

Rollins hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth, and Howard's 45th homer of the season was a two-run blast in the seventh.

Rollins and Howard had two hits each, as the streaking Phillies got the 12th win in their last 15 games to grab first place in the NL East over the New York Mets, 7-4 losers to Florida Friday night.

Winner Cole Hamels (15-5) scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings, with one walk and a career-high 13 strikeouts.

Clay Condrey finished up.

Justin Maxwell had two hits, and four players had one hit each for the Nationals, who were coming off a three-game sweep of the Mets in New York.

The losing pitcher was starter Tim Redding (3-6).
