Michael Young reaches 200-hit level again

ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young had three hits Wednesday to reach the 200-hit plateau for the fifth consecutive season.

The four-time all-star, a fifth-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1997 amateur players draft, hit three RBI singles as the Rangers completed their home season and a three-game sweep with a 16-2 rout of the AL West Division champion LA Angels of Anaheim.

"I could tell the fans were excited, but I was just trying to stay with my plan," Young said on the Rangers' Web site. "For the fans to get excited like that, I definitely appreciated that. That was great."

Young is the second middle infielder ever with at least five straight 200-hit seasons, and only the third player since 1940 with five straight 200-hit seasons.

The other players to do that since 1940 are Wade Boggs and Ichiro Suzuki, who both did it in seven straight seasons.
