KILLENARD, Ireland, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Continental Europe forged a 3-2 lead over Great Britain and Ireland on Day One of the European Tour's Seve Trophy Tournament at Killenard, Ireland.
The defending champions had avoided a 4-1 deficit after the first day of four-ball matches when Graeme Storm and Nick Dougherty captured a 1-up win over Thomas Bjorn and Soren Hansen in the day's last match.
Continental Europe built its 3-2 lead when the teams of Peter Hanson and Robert Karlsson defeated Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren, 3 & 1; Raphael Jacquelin and Gregory Havret beat Paul Casey and Simon Dyson, 4 & 3, and Markus Brier and Mikko Ilonen topped Justin Rose and Oliver Wilson, 3 & 2.
Great Britain and Ireland got its other win when Bradley Dredge and Phillip Archer claimed a 2 & 1 decision over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in the day's second match.
"We kept it together in the end," said Karlsson.
