SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The illness of his son will force Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer to report late to training camp.
The Jazz noted Thursday on their Web site they have granted the all-star's request to report late because of family medical needs.
Training camp starts Oct. 2 at Boise, Idaho.
"My son is recovering from a bone marrow transplant in Miami," Boozer said in a press release.
"Because of his procedure, my return to training camp is uncertain. As soon as my son is home from the hospital and stable, I will join my teammates. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by me and my family during this time."
Last season, the 6-foot-9 inch Boozer, a second-round pick by Cleveland in the 2002 NBA Draft, had averages of 20.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, and three assists per contest in 74 games.
"We are confident that when he rejoins the team he will be ready to compete," said Jazz general manager, Kevin O'Connor.
