LONDON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The father of Los Angeles soccer star David Beckham has been hospitalized in London after suffering a heart attack.
Ted Beckham was reportedly fighting for his life at London Chest Hospital after he complained of chest pains Wednesday night, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.
The soccer star left Los Angeles Thursday morning to be by his father's side.
“Of course his dad’s been taken ill and had a heart attack and so David is not doing very well at all," a close friend of Beckham's told the newspaper.
"He is very upset and just wants to be by his side.”
The relationship between Beckham and his father was strained after Ted Beckham wrote a book about the soccer star entitled "David Beckham: My Son" in 2005. The pair has since reconciled.
A hospital spokesman said he couldn't confirm or deny Ted Beckham's presence at the facility and therefore couldn't comment on his condition, The Daily Telegraph said.
