DENVER, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Brad Hawpe hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning Wednesday night that vaulted the Colorado Rockies to a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Matt Holliday hit two solo home runs and Yorvit Torrealba added one in helping the Rockies win their fourth straight. They began the night 4 1/2 games behind San Diego in the National League wild-card race.
The game was decided by the bullpens after the starters went five innings each -- Colorado's Josh Fogg giving up three runs and the Dodgers' Brad Penny allowing four.
Garrett Atkins singled off Jonathan Broxton (4-4) to open the Colorado eighth and Hawpe hit a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence.
Brian Fuentes (2-5) pitched the eighth to get the win and Manny Corpas worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to pick up his 16th save.
