OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Raul Ibanez' fifth career grand slam powered the Seattle Mariners to an 8-7 win over the Oakland Athletics Tuesday.
Ibanez finished with five RBI for Seattle, which ended a two-game skid. Ichiro Suzuki drove in two runs and scored twice in the win but the Mariners remain 6 1/2 games behind New York because the Yankees also won Tuesday.
Jeff Weaver (7-12) got the win, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on five hits over seven innings of work with three strikeouts.
Mark Ellis hit a bases-clearing triple and Dan Johnson homered for the Athletics, who have dropped three straight.
Chad Gaudin (11-12) was tagged with the loss, surrendering eight runs -- only three of which were earned -- on eight hits in four innings of work.
