DENVER, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Jeff Francis struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Colorado Rockies beat the L.A. Dodgers 3-1 in the first game of a double-header.
Francis (16-8) scattered six hits, including a pinch-hit home run by Olmedo Saenz in the seventh inning.

Cory Sullivan doubled twice and scored twice for the Rockies, who have won three in a row. LaTroy Hawkins got the final out of the seventh, and Brian Fuentes and Manny Corpas each pitched a scoreless inning, with Corpas picking up his 15th save this season.
Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (11-5) worked 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
Los Angeles fell 4 1/2 games behind San Diego for the NL wild card lead.
