PORTOROZ, Slovenia, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Tatiana Golovin was a three-set winner Monday in the opening day of the $145,000 Slovenia Open hard-court tennis tournament.
Golovin lost just two games in the sets she won but managed to win just one in the middle set in defeating Lilia Osterloh 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.
Fourth-seeded Katarina Srebotnik, a local favorite in Slovenia, gave the home crowd something to cheer about with 6-0, 6-0 rout of Masa Zec Peskiric.
In a third match Monday, Elena Likhovtseva got by Klara Zakopalova 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.
The Slovenia Open champion will earn $21,140.
