WNBA: Phoenix 77, Detroit 76

PHOENIX, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Cappie Pondexter made a lay-up with 21.7 seconds left Thursday night, as Phoenix extended the WNBA Finals to the limit with a 77-76 victory over Detroit.

Pondexter scored 26 points, preventing the Shock from clinching a third straight league title and setting up a fifth and deciding game in Detroit Sunday.

Detroit center Cheryl Ford fell to the court in pain in the closing moments after she collided with teammate Deanna Nolan in an attempt to block Pondexter's winning shot.

Ford missed the last 13 games of the regular season and the first game of the finals with an injury to her left knee. She has played in pain throughout the playoffs.

Diana Taurasi had 20 points and six rebounds for Phoenix.

Plenette Pierson led Detroit with 23 points and Nolan had 17.

After Pondexter's key shot, Shannon Jones misfired from long range for the Shock.
