CONOVER, N.C., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Rain in North Carolina took a toll on the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn Friday, causing officials to suspend play during the first round.
Though 54 players were on the course, play was halted at 11:45 a.m. As rain continued to fall on the Jones Course at Rock Barn Golf Club and Spa, play was suspended for the day at 1:30 p.m.

Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. Saturday. Officials said players will remain in the same threesomes for the second round, set to start at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Rod Spittle was the early leader with three-under par through five holes. Jerry Pate, Allen Doyle and Bob Gilder were one stroke back.
