NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Shawn Green hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth Wednesday as the New York Mets edged Atlanta 4-3.
It was Green's third hit while subbing for injured first baseman Carlos Delgado (hip).
Marlon Anderson poked a solo home run in the fifth off Atlanta starter John Smoltz, while Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes also had one RBI as the Mets increased their NL East lead over Philadelphia to seven games.
Atlanta’s Jeff Francoeur’s two-run single in the eighth tied the game 3-3.
Andruw Jones had one RBI courtesy of a bases-loaded walk in the fourth, and Mark Texeira had two runs and two hits for the Braves, who face a 9 1/2-half game deficit behind the Mets.
The losing pitcher was Manny Acosta (0-1).
