NFL: Carolina 27, St. Louis 13

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Jake Delhomme threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns Sunday as Carolina scored the game's last 20 points to defeat St. Louis 27-13.

Two of Delhomme's touchdown passes went to Drew Carter, while Steve Smith had seven receptions for 118 yards and a 68-yard score.

DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams split time at running back and they combined to gain 156 yards on 32 carries.

The Rams owned a 13-7 advantage in the third period and seemed ready to expand on that when they recovered a fumble at midfield. But Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson fumbled the ball right back to the Panthers and they quickly took advantage when Delhomme hooked up with Smith for their long touchdown.

That put Carolina in front for good and the Panthers expanded their lead early in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard field goal from John Kasay. The Panthers put the game away with a 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Carter's second touchdown run of the game midway through the final period.
