COL FB: Boston College 37, N.C. State 17

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Andre Callender rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries Saturday, as No. 25 Boston College beat N.C. State, 37-17.

L.V. Whitworth, who had been listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, picked up 59 yards and one TD on 15 carries for BC (2-0, 2-0 ACC). Quarterback Matt Ryan completed 15-of-34 passes for 142 yards, one touchdown and one interception, for the Eagles -- who spoiled the return of Tom O'Brien, who moved on to coach the Wolfpack after 10 seasons at BC.

Harrison Beck went 26-of-50 passing for 321 yards for N.C. State (0-2, 0-1) -- but he also threw five interceptions. Andre Brown had 140 all-purpose yards -- 63 rushing and 77 receiving -- while Darrell Blackman gained 128 yards on six receptions.

The Wolfpack had more total offense than BC -- 407 yards to 373 yards for the Eagles, but B.C. forced seven turnovers.
