NCAA champ Lewis leads LPGA play

ROGERS , Ark., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Reigning NCAA champion Stacy Lewis finished off a 7-under 65 Saturday and held the lead at the rain-suspended NW Arkansas LPGA Classic.

Persistent bad weather has plagued the event since remnants of Hurricane Henriette blew through the Northwest Arkansas area Friday morning. Play was suspended Saturday morning with 36 players still left to finish their first 18 holes.

LPGA and tournament officials made the decision to shorten the scheduled 54-hole tournament to 18 holes.

"Due to heavy rains resulting in unplayable course conditions at Pinnacle Country Club, with more rain (forecast) for Sunday, officials have determined the event will be shortened," the LPGA said.

The weather outlook through Monday appeared bleak, with thunderstorms forecast for each of the next two days.
