COL FB: Rutgers 41, Navy 24

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Mike Teel threw for three touchdowns and Ray Rice scored three times Friday night as No. 16 Rutgers wore down Navy, 41-24.

Rutgers intercepted three passes while winning for the second time in as many starts.

Teel completed 14 of 19 passes for 265 yards and gave Rutgers a 34-17 lead by hitting Kenny Britt with a 53-yard touchdown toss midway through the fourth quarter.

Rice ran for 176 yards on 37 carries and scored rushing touchdowns of four yards in the first period and two yards in the fourth. He also caught a 22-yard scoring pass with 34 seconds left in the first half that gave the Scarlet Knights a 24-7 lead at the break.

Rice, touted as a Heisman Trophy candidate, stayed in the game until the final minutes.

Navy was threatening to cut into a 17-7 deficit late in the second period when quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada was intercepted in the end zone. Rutgers quickly drove 80 yards to a score.

The Midshipmen fell to 1-1.
