MLB: Pittsburgh 8, St. Louis 2

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Three RBI each from Ronny Paulino and Jack Wilson Wednesday carried Pittsburgh to an 8-2 victory over St. Louis.

The result spoiled the 2007 debut of Mark Mulder (0-1), who had left rotator cuff surgery last September. He gave up eight hits and six runs over four innings.

St. Louis, despite a two-run homer by Rick Ankiel, dropped two games behind division-leading Chicago in the NL Central.

Paulino delivered all of his RBI on a home run and Adam LaRoche added a homer for the Pirates. Tony Armas (3-5) picked up the win by allowing two runs on five hits in six innings.

Wilson had a three-run double in the second and Paulino hit his homer in the fourth to give the Pirates a 6-2 lead.
