WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, propelling Washington to a 2-1 win over San Francisco.

It was just Washington’s fourth hit of the contest, and Zimmerman’s 16th game-winning RBI this season. He raised his RBI total to 80.

The Nationals' other run scored on Nook Logan's third inning triple.

Starter Matt Chico allowed an earned run and four hits in seven innings with a walk and three strikeouts. The winner was closer Chad Cordero (3-3).

Washington won twice in the three-game series.

San Francisco's run scored on Rich Aurilia's fifth homer in the top of the fifth.

He and Kevin Frandsen had two hits apiece for the Giants, who have dropped three of four.

The loser was Brain Wilson (1-1) after starter Barry Zito yielded an earned run and just two hits in seven innings with a walk and five strikeouts.
