PITTSBURGH, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth Thursday night to help the Cincinnati Red beat Pittsburgh, 5-4.
It was Griffey's third hit of the game. Cincinnati’s Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and one RBI.
Jorge Cantu drove in a run, one run scored on a sixth-inning wild pitch by Pittsburgh starter Matt Morris, Brandon Phillips had a run and three hits, and three players had two hits for the Reds, who split the four-game series.
The winner was Jared Burton (4-1).
David Weathers recorded his 29th save.
Pittsburgh got a two-run homer from Jose Bautista in the seventh and one RBI each from Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche. Three players had two hits each for the Pirates, who lost for the third time in their last 10 games.
The losing pitcher was closer Matt Capps (4-6).
