COL FB: Rutgers 38, Buffalo 3

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Ray Rice ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night to carry No. 16 Rutgers to a 38-3 win over Buffalo on the opening evening of college football.

Rice, a junior, moved within 14 yards of Terrell Willis' Rutgers career rushing record (3,114). He carried the ball 25 times and added two receptions for 21 yards.

Mike Teel completed 16 of 23 throws for 328 yards and two touchdowns.

Rutgers went 11-2 last season, won a bowl game for the first time in school history and opens a season nationally ranked for the first time.

Tiquan Underwood scored twice and set a school record with 248 receiving yards on 10 catches.

Buffalo was led by Drew Willy's 165-yard passing effort. Since defeating Temple in overtime to open the 2006 season, the Bulls have lost 11 out of 12.
