Beckham injured in Galaxy loss

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy's recent import, David Beckham, sprained his right knee half an hour into the team's dramatic loss to Pachuca of Mexico.

The team lost the 1-1 game in overtime, with the Galaxy making three of its six penalty kick attempts and Pachuca sinking four, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Beckham, who is expected to travel Sunday to London to join England's soccer team before it plays Israel and Russia in the Euro 2008 qualifying games Sept. 8 and 12, returned to the Galaxy bench after being treated for his injury to watch the remainder of the game.

The player is still expected to join England, which needs to win both games to qualify.

The victory meant Pachuca took home the top prize of the SuperLiga tournament, while Galaxy fell into Major League Soccer's last place position.
