MLB: Texas 4, Chicago 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Marlon Byrd's eighth-inning RBI single Tuesday sent the Texas Rangers past the Chicago White Sox 4-3.

Gerald Laird hit a two-run homer and Ian Kinsler added a solo shot for the Rangers, who have won three in a row.

Wes Littleton (1-1) earned the win after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning. Starter Kason Gabbard yielded three runs on four hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out three.

Mike MacDougal (1-4) took the loss by giving up three hits and a run in 1 1/3 innings. Chicago starter Gavin Floyd allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

Paul Konerko had a two-run homer for the White Sox, who have dropped six of seven. Jim Thome added a solo shot -- his 494th career home run that moved him into sole possession of 23rd on the all-time list, one ahead of Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff.
