NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Melky Cabrera hit a bases-clearing triple in a four-run sixth Saturday, as the New York Yankees beat Detroit, 7-2.
Johnny Damon added a solo homer, a triple and two RBI, and Hideki Matsui had three hits, two RBI and a run scored for the Yankees.
Winner Chien-Ming Wang (15-6) gave up two runs on five hits in eight innings for New York, which remained 6 1/2 games behind Boston for first place in the AL East, and 2 1/2 games behind Seattle for the wild-card spot.
In a correction from Friday's game, an error charged to Placido Polanco was given to Marcus Thames. Polanco has now gone 149 straight games without an error, a record for second basemen.
Magglio Ordonez had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Inge had two hits and a run scored for the Tigers.
Jeremy Bonderman (10-7) gave up seven runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Bonderman has not won a game since defeating Seattle July 13.
