Argentina wins in Olympics qualifying

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Luis Scola scored 22 points Friday to help Argentina remain unbeaten in the Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament with an 87-75 decision over Puerto Rico.

Argentina is 2-0 in Group A of the tournament, which will determine two berths in next summer's Beijing Olympics.

Puerto Rico led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but fell to 1-2 in group play. In the other Group A game, Panama defeated Mexico, 95-90.

The United States, participating in Group B, had the day off while Brazil joined the Americans at 2-0 by running past Venezuela, 101-75. The Brazilians led by only seven at halftime.

Canada won over the Virgin Islands in the other Group B game, 93-83.

The Americans will play Canada Saturday, and close out group play Sunday by taking on Brazil. Team USA has already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.
