Vick signs plea deal

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Michael Vick has signed a plea agreement admitting he conducted gambling and sponsored and transported dogs in dog-fighting operations.

Published reports say the embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback signed the government-imposed plea arrangement Thursday, but did not admit to killing any dogs personally or gambling on the fights.

The agreement says he and three co-defendants -- Tony Taylor, Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace -- "rolled" or "tested" dogs in “Bad Newz” Kennels in 2002 by putting them through fighting sessions to determine which ones were good fighters.

The former Pro Bowl selection is expected to formally enter the plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Richmond, Va., and admit he sponsored dogs in dogfights and bought and transported dogs across state lines to engage in animal fighting ventures.

The summary states Vick was aware that Phillips, Peace and Tony Taylor killed a number of dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions.
