MLB: N.Y. Mets 5, LA Dodgers 2

NEW YORK, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Oliver Perez gave up only three hits in seven scoreless innings Friday night as the New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-2.

New York’s David Wright had two hits -- including his 23rd home run this season -- and two RBI. The homer was a solo shot in the fifth.

Three New York players had one RBI each. Mike DiFelice had three hits, while Ruben Gotay also had two hits for the NL East-leading Mets, who have split their last four games.

Perez (12-8) walked five batters and struck out six.

LA’s Jeff Kent and Ramon Martinez had one RBI each. Matt Kemp had two of the eight hits for the Dodgers, who also have split their last four.

Loser Brad Penny (14-4) yielded three earned runs and six hits in six innings.

The Mets will face the Dodgers’ latest addition, left-hander David Wells, in Sunday’s series finale.
