MLB: LA Dodgers 5, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Juan Pierre knocked in the go-ahead run Thursday with a seventh inning single as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Philadelphia, 5-2.

The hit erased a 1-1 tie.

In the eighth, Jeff Kent hit an RBI single, and Ramon Martinez added a two-run double to give Los Angeles a 5-1 lead.

LA took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Rafael Furcal’s RBI double.

Martinez had two for the Dodgers, who have won three of four.

Winner Chad Billingsley (8-4) gave up an earned run and four hits in seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts, while Takashi Saito recorded his 34th save this season.

Philadelphia scored on Pat Burrell’s RBI double in the sixth, and Tadahito Iguchi’s solo home run in the eighth.

Jayson Werth had two hits as the Phillies have lost three of four.

The loser was reliever J.C. Romero (0-2).
