MLB: Cleveland 3, Detroit 1 (10 inn.)

DETROIT, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Kenny Lofton knocked in the go-ahead run with a 10th-inning single Thursday afternoon as the Cleveland Indians beat Detroit, 3-1.

Lofton's RBI single snapped a scoreless tie through nine. Cleveland’s Chris Gomez added a two-run single.

Grady Sizemore had two hits for the Indians, who have won four of their last six games and lead the AL Central by 2 1/2 games over the Tigers.

Cleveland starter Jake Westbrook scattered five hits over eight scoreless innings, with two walks and three strikeouts.

The winner was Rafael Perez (1-1). Joe Borowski earned his 36th save.

Magglio Ordonez and Marcus Thames had two hits each for the Tigers.

Detroit's Nate Robertson yielded four hits in 8 2/3 scoreless innings. He departed after Sizemore’s two-out double in the top of the ninth.

The Tigers traded outfielder Craig Monroe and cash to the Chicago Cubs prior to the game, for a player to be named.
