NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Defending champion Nikolay Davydenko moved into the quarterfinals Wednesday at the Pilot Pen, a final tune-up for the U.S. Open.
After rain washed out most of Tuesday's action, Davydenko highlighted a busy day by defeating Donald Young 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

No. 4 seed David Ferrer had to rally to oust John Isner 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-2.
Fifth-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu won over Luis Horna 6-3, 7-6 (7-3); Thomas Johansson eliminated Potito Starace 7-6 (7-3), 6-3; Jose Acasuso was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Dominik Hrbaty; and 10th-seeded Nicolas Almagro eliminated Julien Benneteau 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3.
Among the other winners were Ivo Karlovic, Fernando Verdasco, Gilles Simon, Igor Andreev and Stanislas Wawrinka.
