GREENSBORO, N.C., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Brandt Snedeker Sunday closed with a 9-under-par 63 to capture the PGA’s Wyndham Championship at Greensboro, N.C., by two shots.
Snedeker began the final round tied for eighth place with two others, including second-round co-leader Steve Marino.
In his spectacular outing Sunday, Snedeker, a native of Nashville, Tenn., had just one bogey (No. 12), but eight birdies helped him produce the event’s best one-round score -- and finish with a 72-hole total of 22-under 266.
The victory, Snedeker’s first on the PGA Tour, was worth $900,000.
“It's just unbelievable," Snedeker said. “I'm getting goose bumps thinking about everything that comes with it. Thank God I didn't think about that today because I probably would not have won."
Overton was the leader by three shots when the round began, but a bogey at No. 2 kept him from building any momentum.
