Okeafor determined to play this season

PHOENIX, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chike Okeafor said he will try to play his season despite surgery on his torn left biceps tendon.

The procedure was performed Wednesday by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Dersam.

Okeafor, a 6-foot, 5-inch, 265-pound, eight-year veteran hasn't been placed on the season-ending reserve list but his surgery normally requires a four-month recovery period, the team said.

"We're going to evaluate it next week and see where he is," Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt told the Arizona Republic. "There is no need to do anything right now because of where we are, numbers-wise, with the roster."

Last season, Okeafor totaled 54 tackles, two forced fumbles, and 8 1/2 sacks. In his career, the former Purdue product, a third-round pick by San Francisco in the 1999 NFL draft, has 329 total tackles, 44 sacks and 14 forced fumbles.
