OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Kurt Suzuki gave Oakland a three-run lead in the seventh with a two-run homer Wednesday and the Athletics held off the Chicago White Sox 3-2.
Joe Blanton broke out of a slump by pitching seven shutout innings and after Alan Embree almost blew a three-run lead in the eighth, Huston Street came on in the ninth to earn his 10th save.

Blanton (10-8) allowed five hits after having gone 1-4 in his previous seven starts with an ERA of 7.12 in that span.
The loss went to Mark Buehrle (9-8), who allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings.
Donnie Murphy led off the Oakland seventh with a double, was sacrificed to third and scored in front of Suzuki's homer to left-center.
