DENVER, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Denver Broncos linebacker Warrick Holdman will miss at least three months because of a spinal cord contusion he suffered nine days ago.
The team made the announcement Saturday as it broke training camp at Englewood, Colo.
The nine-year veteran was injured in a collision with running back Mike Bell at a practice session.
After Holdman's helmet struck Bell with the crown of his helmet during a tackle, he lay on the practice field for several minutes and was carted away on a stretcher.
He was held for over night observation at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in nearby Lone Tree, Colo., as a precautionary measure.
Doctors have told the 243-pound Holdman to avoid physical contact during his rehabilitation period, at the end of which team officials said he will be re-evaluated to determine his possible availability for the end of the regular season.
"We're talking to his agent," Coach Mike Shanahan said on the team's Web site.
