Bonds exhibit begins at Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- An exhibit for home run king Barry Bonds of San Francisco has opened at baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The veteran outfielder surpassed Hank Aaron Tuesday by hitting his 756th career homer in the Giants' game against Washington.

It's primary feature is the batting helmet he wore when he launched the historic homer.

MLB.com noted it also will have the helmet he wore the next day when he hit No. 757.

He signed both in gold pen with the dates and number.

Other items include the ball and strike indicator used by plate umpire John Hirschbeck, ticket stubs from both games, a large photograph of Bonds, a reproduction of an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, and the scorecard kept by Giants' announcer Duane Kupier.

"The atmosphere (at AT&T Park) was electric," said Jeff Idelson, the hall's vice president of communications. "I know how meaningful it was to Barry to do it at home."
