MLB: Oakland 16, Detroit 10

DETROIT, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Jack Cust had a career-best seven RBI Friday night and Travis Buck drove in three runs on four hits as the Oakland Athletics out-slugged Detroit, 16-10.

Cust had a three-run double in the third inning and then belted a grand slam homer as part of an eight-run sixth that put the Athletics in front for good. It was the first grand slam of his career.

Buck came within a home run of the cycle while scoring three runs and reaching base five times in six plate appearances.

Ruddy Lugo (3-0) threw two innings of relief to get the win. Starter Joe Blanton could not protect an early 8-1 lead.

Marcus Thames had a grand slam for Detroit, but Macay McBride (1-1) could not take advantage of a rally that briefly gave the Tigers a 9-8 advantage. McBride allowed four earned runs on only one hit.

Detroit has lost 12 out of 15 and remains 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland in the American League Central.
