Home run ball No. 755 to be auctioned

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Adam Hughes, a 33-year-old plumber who caught Barry Bonds' 755th home run ball in San Diego, had decided to sell it at auction.

The home run allowed Bonds to equal Hank Aaron's all-time MLB record.

Hughes has signed on with a partner of the Sotheby's auction firm to sell the ball, which was hit in San Diego last Saturday. It will be sold in an online auction to run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 14.

"I'm really happy for Bonds," Hughes said in a statement. "He made a lifetime achievement and I feel very fortunate that I caught this ball. Never in a million years did I expect it."

The same auction firm sold Bonds' 700th home run ball for $102,000 two years ago. When Bonds hit his 715th homer, putting him second on the all-time list just ahead of Babe Ruth, the ball was sold for $220,100.

Matt Murphy, who caught Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run ball Tuesday, has yet to say whether to sell it or keep it.
