Brett Reed named Lehigh men's hoops coach

BETHLEHEM, Pa., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Associate coach Brett Reed Friday was elevated to head coach for men's basketball at Lehigh University.

Reed, who has been at the school the last five years, succeeds Billy Taylor, who filled the vacancy at Ball State earlier this week.

"It is a privilege to represent one of the most prestigious universities in the country," Reed said on the school's Web site. "I am proud of the student-athletes we currently have, and am looking forward to building a championship caliber program."

Reed also has been a recruiting coordinator, academic monitor, and a scout.

He was instrumental in the Mountain Hawks' 2004 Patriot League championship, as well as the school's two winning seasons (2003-04 and 2005-06).

"I am proud for Brett and his family," Taylor said.

This is Reed's first head coaching job.

He inherits a team that went just 12-19 overall last season.
