MLB: Washington 8, San Francisco 6

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Barry Bonds drove a Mike Bacsik pitch 435 feet over the right-center field wall Tuesday, completing his quest to break Hank Aaron's career home run record.

The Giants outfielder, who was greeted by his son Nikolai after he crossed home plate, hit homer No. 756 in an 8-6 loss to Washington. Bond eclipsed Hank Aaron's mark but his accomplishment will carry an asterik for the foreseeable future because of allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs.

Neither Aaron nor Commissioner Bud Selig were at the game to witness Bond breaking the 33-year-old record but Aaron offered congratulations via the stadium's video board, calling it "a great accomplishment which requires skill, longevity and determination."

Felipe Lopez hit the go-ahead RBI double during Washington's four-run eighth inning. Lopez also homered, as did Austin Kearns and Brian Schneider for the Nationals.

Chris Schroder (1-0) threw two innings for his first major league win. Chad Cordero pitched the ninth for his 24th save.

Molina had three RBI for the Giants and the loss went to Kevin Correia (1-6) .
