MLB: Pittsbugh 8, Arizona 3

PHOENIX, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Tom Gorzelanny struck out a career-high nine hitters over seven innings Tuesday as the Pittsburgh Pirates buried the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-3.

Gorzelanny gave up just two runs on four hits while improving to 10-6.

Ronny Paulino drove in two runs, and Nate McLouth, Jose Bautista and Jack Wilson had two hits apiece for the Pirates, who have won three of five.

Teenager Justin Upton doubled, tripled and homered in his Arizona home debut and Orlando Hudson also homered for the Diamondbacks, who are 13-3 in their last 16.

Arizona starter Micah Owings (5-6) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
