Sharapova returns to Acura final

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Maria Sharapova will play 11th-see Patty Schnyder Sunday for the championship of the $1.34 million Acura Classic.

Sharapova, the defending champion, reached the final with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over third-seeded fellow Russian Chakvetadze Saturday.

Schnyder of Switzerland defeated ninth-seeded Russian Elena Dementieva 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.

Sharapova, who has 15 career titles, is 5-1 all-time against Schnyder, and that includes a victory at the French Open earlier this year.
