MLB: Arizona 1, LA Dodgers 0

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Chris Snyder's lead-off homer in the eighth inning broke up a scoreless battle Friday night and gave Arizona a 1-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Arizona's Doug Davis and Los Angeles' Chad Billingsley dueled for seven innings before the Diamondbacks broke through and extended their lead in the National League West to two games over the Dodgers.

Billingsley (7-2) had allowed only three hits through seven, but Snyder lined a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left.

Davis (8-10) allowed three hits over eight innings and Jose Valverde came on to work a 1-2-3 ninth and pick up his 32nd save.

Arizona has won 11 of its last 13 games to overtake the Dodgers, who have dropped seven out of nine.
