WASHINGTON, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Arnaud Clement and Mardy Fish were both second-round losers Wednesday at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.
Clement, the fourth seed, was eliminated by Thomas Johansson 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Fish fell to Michael Berrer 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Johansson was playing in the second round of an ATP event for only the second time in his last seven tournaments.
Second-seeded Tommy Haas moved into the third round with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Alejandro Falla. Haas is returning to action after suffering a torn stomach muscle at Wimbledon.
Haas will next meet Michael Russell, who advanced Wednesday when Wesley Whitehouse was forced to retire with Russell leading 7-6 (7-1), 4-1.
Also reaching the third round was seventh-seeded Ivo Karlovic, a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Evgeny Korolev.
